Bally’s Journey to the Pennsylvania Online Casino Market
Bally Casino is Pennsylvania’s second platform to start without a physical casino partner. PlayLive! Casino is the only major online platform that launched before its physical equivalent.
Bally’s is in the same situation as PlayLive! As Live! Casino! Casino Philadelphia debuted months after its online app was launched. Bally’s retail casino on Penn State’s campus is the subject of several lawsuits, which have no bearing on Bally’s status as an iGaming provider in Pennsylvania.
On January 3, Bally’s filed a petition for an online betting casino license as a Qualified Gaming Entity (QGE). The PGCB approved Bally Casino’s petition to open in Pennsylvania on March 22.
The Pennsylvania Casino Business is still Expanding
With the debut, Pennsylvania now has 20 online casinos. It will be difficult for the state to catch up to New Jersey, which has 32 distinct platforms.
Bally’s has been entering a crowded market since Tropicana Casino opened in late April. More internet casinos seem to be on the way as well.
Since the beginning of 2023, Bet365 has been steadily expanding in the United States. Its sportsbook debuted in Iowa last month, and both platforms are expected to arrive in Pennsylvania soon. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) outlined the measures bet365 must take before entering the Pennsylvania market.
Fanatics also got a piece of the PA pie after purchasing PointsBet’s US assets for $225 million last month. When Fanatics joins the PA commotion, it will take over the operations of PointsBet. Therefore, it will not be a new online casino. It will, however, likely make a more significant effort to capture market share.
