On August 19, one BetMGM Casino player in New Jersey won $6.45 million after placing a $200 stake. The massive jackpot, which BetMGM claims is “the largest” in the history of US iGaming, may alter Americans’ ideas of prospective online rewards. Traditionally, land-based casinos have had the “wow” factor regarding jackpot sizes.
On the BetMGM Casino Facebook page, a message from August 19 read:

On August 20, BetMGM issued a press release with additional information:
On the morning of August 19, a player on BetMGM Casino in New Jersey won ‘The Big One’ progressive jackpot for $6.4 million on a $200 bet while playing Fruit Blaster.
The New Jersey resident who won the BetMGM Casino online slot jackpot remains unidentified, as do Mega Millions and Powerball winners, whose payouts can exceed $1 billion.
Another distinguishing feature of the vast BetMGM jackpot is that only one winner will be rewarded. In June, Evolution (Evolution AB (publ) 3,35 +8,41%) paid out $37.4 million for the Crazy Time live dealer game. However, 4,988 bettors split the jackpot. (They did, however, win in the Euros—outside of the United States.)
$200 BetMGM Casino Wager Creates History
On August 20, BetMGM iGaming Communications Manager Katie Kohler emailed Bonus about the $6,450,023.04 August 19 win.
It is the greatest jackpot ever awarded by an online casino in the United States. US online casinos are younger than their land-based counterparts. iGaming debuted in New Jersey roughly ten years ago, and its land-based casino partners in Atlantic City are approaching their 50th anniversary.
The commercial casino operated by BetMGM’s half-owner, MGM Resorts International (MGM Resorts International 38.93 +0.49%), debuted on August 21, 2003. The top page of the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa website offered a $1.5 million “Summer Showdown,” in which slot and table game players can enter drawings for up to five jackpots every day.
Surprisingly enough, the New Jersey winner of the BetMGM Casino jackpot can also choose to visit an MGM casino in “the nearest location to the winner’s home,” which is most likely the Borgata. The multi-millionaire may also choose to visit a Las Vegas MGM facility.
Meanwhile, “The Big One” had its jackpot reset. On August 20, BetMGM had previously offered a $1.2 million prize.
BetMGM Can Afford $6.45 Million
MGM and Entain (Entain PLC 640.80 +0.22%) founded BetMGM in 2018. Since then, US iGaming states have produced billions of dollars in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in each legal jurisdiction.

So BetMGM may be able to save $6.45 million. BetMGM announced on August 20:
In 2023, BetMGM casino platforms paid over $138 million in progressive jackpot payments, a 32% increase over the previous year. Entain’s exclusive titles for BetMGM, such as Bison Fury and MGM Grand Million Megaways, accounted for more than half of the total prize money.
